i once read that 'utopia' means 'no place' derived from the greek 'O'topia. others surmise its origins is from 'eu' (as in 'eugenics'). which means 'healthy place' or 'good place'. sir thomas more in his 16th century Utopia might have been punning when he said "utopia is the good place that doesnt exist". too damn right!!

the kommunist regime in Russia & the nazis in Germany all began as utopian visions. we've heard the saying many times "the road to hell is paved with good intention". "perfection" is always disrupted by dissent. there will always be sumone out there who will not endorse your view or fit in with your plan. the question is..... what will you choose to do about it?

grimey skate spot

here are some of the fotos i took of that wikkid new skate spot in the city!! its very "basic" at the moment. rail.... fun box & a ramp. theres a charred mattress & a few wonky looking office chairs strewn about. but i instantly fell in LOVE with this spot!!!!! *sigh* i kan imagine wat it feels like skating places like 'royal oak' in London (fingers krossed next year) or brooklyn bridge in NY. this spot has that sort of potential.

i think i have a penchant for undercover spots? its just nice to be sheltered from the sun & rain. especially when you're mockingly meters away from torrential rain but the ground you skate on is bone dry. weeeeeeee!!! sheer bliss. these fotos are from my kamera fone.... so they're pretty awful. i will promise to upload MORE of 'mounts bay' the next kouple of weeks. happy skating everyone!!!!!

i'm fucked up cause i love LV. i know... i know. its an old ladies handbag. and if you're not a hag then you're a friggin poser or a fag who likes mass produced.. monogrammed prints... lack a unique fashion identity & all that malarkey. but i dunt give a toss!! cause you gotta admit.... this. is. fully. i've seen the limited edition LV stephen spruce 'complete' & trunk late last year. i always wundered who won the bid for the 3 sets in NYC: rich banker wankers who used to skate back in the day? or did it end up with sum asshole kollector who doesnt give a rats arse for skating but bought it anyway. wish i was a squillionaire. i'd love to skate a $9,000 deck & wear my $1,200 LV 'Jasper shoos' just because. being middle klass sucks!! pfffffft!! these shoos are wikkid man. i want the ones with the pink soles. *sigh* source: Ibn Jasper's Blog

buttons

i've always loved kollecting buttons & pins. it all started back when i was working at Hard Rock Cafe to pay my way thru art college. pins are sorta part of the uniform. what started as a requirement for work became an unexpectedly large kollection!! i even designed 2 of their pins when i was a member of staff for world aids day & the 8th anniversary pin as highlighted below.
i dunt know why but i recently had this urge to wear buttons again after a 7 year hiatus. oh. my gosh!! i totally forgot the kick ass ones i've kept!!! but my all time fave simply says "skateboarder by day, deadly ninja by night" haHaha!!! i've got a ginormous box filled with buttons. mostly skate/ sxe/ drum&bass/ rebellion related graphix. i love it!!!
so it got me thinking maybe i shud start pressing buttons for guerrrilla skateboards? most skate shops & manufacturers give out free stickers as well (which is pretty standard). buttons: its something to seriously konsider. i need to go find me a button press/ maker. now where the hell do i get one? hmmm...... and i am so excited about this WIKKID new skate spot me mates are taking me this weekend!!!!!! i have got to bring my kamera!!!!! yeessh!!

ITS OFFICIAL FOLKS!!

i am a lady boss of my own skate company!! bwahahHaha!! every morning i wake up & pinch myself to see if its all a dream. nup!! still the boss. heh. i went postal when my laminated certificate arrived in the... uhhmm post (pardon the pun). but i now have an ABN & a registered business name acknowledged by the feds. this is massif!! i am the happiest skater chick alive!! i am still in the process of registering trademarks for the name & logo before it all goes out in public. *sigh* finally.



feels greeeat to be blogging again. not so much for the world to read my bullshit thoughts & mundane existence. i like reading old posts and thinking "holy shit!! that did happen!" or "what was i thinking?" so this particular post... is the the one where i legally became "lau pan niang" of my own skate co. i also need to mention a silly obsession with chase and status tune kalled "pieces"& "dumpling riddum". i love it sooo so much. been singing (and skreaming) it every single day for the past 4 months!! nadia of the future will be so amused. its uploaded on radio.blog so YOU can be obsessed too. boo yah kah!! boo yah kah!!

my spoils

yesterday.... i went SHOPPING!! okay i lied. my girlfrens dunt kall this shopping. they say i buy "rubbish" apparently. haHaha!! omigawd!!! i'm soooo friggin happy!!!! i bought 2 sets of bearings, a set of 52 spitfire wheels, a 'Thrasher: oh god! why can't my boyfriend skate?!' tee shirt & kolourful enjoi nuts & bolts!! been wanting to buy this Thrasher tee-shirt for over 8 years man. mine got stolen.
so FINALLY!!! muahaHaha!! if you're a perth city skater popping over the evil isle on transit or a short vakation, buy your hardware here!!!! my wheels are $15 cheaper. the bearings are $40 less for the swiss & $15 less for the reds. as you know Trasher doesnt ship outside the states, so finding these tee-shirts on the shelves of your lokal skate shop is the best feeling ever. needless to say i went for a lovely skate sesh at ang mo kio banks late last night. AMK reprezent!!! 

cammy's world

we were skating in the city when me mate had a family emergency. so he entrusted his son to me. his son is shooo adorable!!! cameron wore the tiniest pair of 'Fallen' shooz & his skateboard was almost bigger than he. i was dying of kuteness overload!!!! as we skated along.... we spotted a dead lorikeet. i wasnt sure if he was familiar with the koncept of death. he asked a barrage of questions: "why isnt birdie moving? whhhy?? will he wake up? wot if kitty komes & eats him?!! kan we pick him up?

usually i'd make stuff up about sock piranhas who live in washing machines to explain missing socks or a broken sprinkler in the sky to make it rain in sum spots & not others. but i dunt make stuff up about death. i explained it in a matter-of-fact way. “the bird probably hurt his wing. they need their wings to work so they kan fly to find food & water. so he probably got really hungry, fell sick and died.” and at that moment I felt a welling in my eyes. i imagined a sad lorikeet wife & a fatherless lorikeet kid. i was emotionally locked into this moment with cameron.

cammy looked so adorable as he squatted by the sidewalk. arms folded over his knees. little sad pout. i asked him “do you wanna ask me anything else?”... “uuhmm yeah”...“wat issit bubs?”... “uurrh. kud you teach me how you pop shuvit pwease???” and just like that... death was no longer on the agenda. we spent all arvo making robot mechanikal sound FX to our skating & had icey pole treats. teaching an 8 year old how to skate was one thing. but death. money. philosophy? 

suurpraiiize!!

so wats the BIG surprise?? i've been relentless in bugging my godma about her surprise prezzie. she finally handed me sum weird looking city link package on the kondition i not open it till xmas. but i know wat it is already!!!!!!!!!!!! ahaHaHAHA!!!  

the package is from: slam city skates. helloo!!! a brand new skateboard deck!!!!! bet its a blueprint. muaHaha!! the shape, the weight, its so obvious. as soon as i saw the mailing addy of the sender ..... i shrieked!! and ran thru the kitchen door, round the house, back into the house thru the laundry door before giving godma a tight squishy hug!!!!! and a kissh!!!!

kant believe i have to wait till Xmas to rip the darn packaging. uuurrrgh!! in all my years... i've always received skate related tee-shirts and even shooz as b-day & xmas pressies. no one has ever bought me skating paraphernalia or hardware (if you not kount my element skate tool). i finally know wat this feels like. *sigh* godma is the bestest!!!! really made my day. 

new shoezies!!!

i swore i wud NEVER wear nikes. but these were on sale. it wud kruel not to??!! haHaha!! fine. i've sold out. these are my new "sell-out" skating shoes. maaaaann!!! i love my wikkid new nike SBs. kant wait to "break them in" this weekend!! i wore them round the house & fell asleep without taking them off. i woke up this morning, looked down at my feet..... and ta dah!!! there they were. my precious nike SBs. muahaHaha!!    

the partner in krime reminded me it was "guy fawkes" just a kouple of days back. bonfire night & penny for a guy. seriously i reckon "guy fawkes" is waaaay kewler than halloween. historikally its alot more signifikant too. but everywhere around the world.... everyone wud rather "halloween". wat is up with that?? i never kud relate to halloween. maybe theres sumthing wrong with me hey? haHahHA!! 

when skaters unite.....

i've been working on an amazing feature story on the fate & future of Wool Store!! as far as i'm koncerned its one of dopest spots to skate in the world. the rumor mills been churning devious tales of demolition & destruction. apparently sum property real estate wankers are gonna turn it into a bunch of shitty apartments. 

it was wikkid chatting with the woolstore krew. met a lokal skater who made his own skate video kalled "woolstore laif". big up to the folks at momentum!! they are the bestest. i kudnt have done this without them. i've uploaded a few fotos of wool store. i noe it looks damn ghetto that tearing it down might even be a good idea. but this spot is GOLD!! we've had pro-skaters from all over the world who will attest to that. 




in proposing this feature, my "chief-editor" gave me the filthiest look and asked, "how is this newsworthy? they're just a bunch of skaters. i thought skating is dead? i understand it used to be hip. but now?" WHAAAT?!! since when was skateboarding a trend?? i wunt get into the nasty details (and there is plenty). so i grinned my teeth, admitted i am a fuckin idiot for wanting to do this. a story like this needs to be done!! so he sighed, pat me on the back & sent me on my way. dick.  


skaters have been wrangling & fighting their way in kommunities & cities to keep spots like these alive. if you've never been a skater, i dunt think you'll ever understand why this is so important. dunt give us designated skate parks. if thats the kase.... then lets abolish beaches. swim only in artificially man made swimming pools. fuck the foot path!! you joggers shud just buy a threadmill. seems unreasonable & far fetched innit? my point exaktly.
