job hazard

i spent a most relaxing evening at lower pierce reservior with my parents. we packed a picnik & sat by the water awaiting the sunset. mum whipped out her berita harian (malay newspaper).... and slowly we eased into a komplikated konversation on work ethiks. an aussie is imprisoned for insulting the krowne prince of Thailand whilst a lokal bureaukrat was bagged for bragging about his trip to Paris kosting S$42,000. even the venerable monk of ren ci is being charged in kourt for forgery & misappropriating funds.

mum randomly asked.... "you willing to go to prison for work sayang?!" she knew journos get thrown in jail often for kontempt in refusing to name their "sources". some get tangled in defamation suits whilst others who incite emotion & free thinking are deemed "dangerous" to korporations & korrupt officials. when push kame to shove... is protekting demokracy & the 4th estate more important than protekting oneself? tough question mum!!! i asked myself if i wud be that person who lived in fear or go all out "guns blazing!!". its interesting the attitude every individual has with regards to work ethiks. live to work or work to live?
